Lovebug's New Quilt! {from Christmas}

So I've been sorting through a ridiculous 900+ photos that were clogging my iphone's storage this past few weeks, and have been coming across all of the projects I did before Christmas. I thought I'd get to sharing those bits of craftiness now that we're buried under a foot and a half of snow and are bunkered down at home for a while! There's only so much cleaning and baking a Mama can do right?

Back in October, Bri and I took our very first weekend trip together without Lovebug. It was a rainy fall weekend and we went to the beautiful Big Cedar Lodge in the Ozarks. Our room was amazingly cozy and it would have been the perfect trip, but unfourtunately I puked {in public} several times throughout the weekend and spent the rest of the time mostly in the big fluffly king-sized bed. We did manage to have some fun at Silver Dollar City the first day and I bought this adorable fabric all bundled together with a simple pattern at a cute little quilt shop.

I decided it would be a new cuddling quilt for my sweet girl and whipped it up a few weeks before Christmas so I could wrap it up under the tree for her. We only give her 3 gifts for Christmas and I want to always try to make one handmade. This year her Daddy re-did a beautiful doll bunk-bed for her too {post on that coming soon!} This was such a quick quilt! It doesn't need any batting, since it's a quilt-as-you-go, backed with super-soft fleece. I will say I'm not a huge fan of sewing each strip to the backing, since there were a few spots where my strips didn't get tacked down and I had to fix them after it was all 'done.' I only quilted once or twice per strip, and spent an evening hand sewing the binding. It's 45x 60inches finished, and it's even big enought for Mama to get under when we snuggle up in the morning.

My sweet girl caught an awful bug on Christmas Day and spent a week curled up under it, watching movies and sleeping on and off. I'm just glad she loves it so much, and it's had PLENTY of use this winter!
