A Hardrock Burger that Rocks…

A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon THIS recipe on Monica’s Creations. It’s a burger served at Hard Rock Café and… OH MY GOODNESS! Such a surprising combination of flavors that come together just perfectly… but don’t take my word for it!

Here’s what you need…

The Granny Burger

1 Granny Smith Apple (sliced thin, skin on)
1 large red onion (very thinly sliced)
½ lb thick cut applewood bacon
1 lb ground sirloin
S&P
EVOO
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup mustard
White hamburger buns
Sliced Provolone cheese (I used cheddar… it’s what I had)

Start by getting the bacon cooking! I like mine nice and crunchy so it takes a bit. When it’s cooked to your liking, place it on a paper towel line plate and set aside.

Then go ahead and slice up your onion. I threw ‘em in a pan with a little EVOO and let ‘em get nice and soft and caramelized over medium heat for about 12 minutes. I just LOVE caramelized onions… YUM!

Don’t forget to get your buns toasting under the broiler! Set a timer for 2 minutes so you don’t end up with charred bits!

Meanwhile, throw the burgers on the grill. You can also cook ‘em up in a skillet if you want. I made 1/3 lb burgers for this recipe. I can only ever eat one burger and Bri likes two… so it works out nicely. I just seasoned ‘em up with a little S&P and drizzled on some EVOO so they wouldn’t stick to the grill. They take about 5 minutes on each side over medium heat. Add the cheese in the last minute or so to get it melty!

While you cook the burgers on the second side, add the sliced apples to the grill for a couple minutes… just getting grill marks on them brings out the flavor and takes the chill off.

For the sauce… do NOT skip this step… it goes so well with all the other ingredients! Whisk the maple syrup and mustard together and set aside. I dare you to lick your fingers and not go back for more!

When it comes time to assemble, spread some sauce on both buns. Add a few slices of apple and bacon, a burger, a pile of those red onions!

This is a sure to be a crowd pleaser, as well as a great way to dress up a weekend burger on the grill! Enjoy ya’ll!
